1950’s Jantzen swimsuit ad

1940 - One month after the first appearance of Robin, the Boy Wonder in Detective Comics 38 (April, 1940), the fans of Batman and Robin must have been delighted to find the above advert in Detective Comics 39 (May, 1940). The advert announced that in three weeks time, Batman and Robin would be getting an entire comic book all to themselves! The publication of Batman #1, first as a quarterly, then as a bi-monthly, and finally as a monthly, started a successful run that continues to this day.

1982 - Atari : The Empire Strikes Back

1960s - Tampax. Her brain is as big as her beehive, and those are the only two thoughts inside of it. WOMEN!

1959 - Evening Eyes. Please don’t come near me.

1964 June - Kool-Aid offers a second type of mouth acid; Pre-Sweetened!

1961 - Bicycle playing cards. Everything about this advert is amazing. “The understanding woman knows that men like old friends … pipes and favorite haunts and playing cards”

1960s - Kotex advert. “Choose the WIDTH, DEPTH and LENGTH” that meets your absorbency needs”. Wouldn’t depth infer length or have I had it wrong all these years?! Regardless, it appears you needed eye protection for this shit back in the day.

1965 - Things Go Better With Coke. One sandwich between two people? Fuck that. I enjoy how the ad makers wanted to flip the “traditional” roles in this advert, but the photography mocks it. “Yeah, like SHE knows how to use a fucking pencil. Now get out of my shirt and let me get on with business”.
